How to Make Tactile Numbers for RightStart Math

I'm now making my way through RightStart Level A for the third time and FINALLY got around to making the Sandpaper Number Cards from the games book! I have found that ALL my children really struggle with getting their numbers around the right way and I've read that kids greatly benefit from tracing the number… Continue reading How to Make Tactile Numbers for RightStart Math

RightStart Math Sale & Homeschool Updates

Homeschool friends: Now is a great time to score a new abacus -- and it's a cute one! Also, I thought I'd give you a little snapshot into other things we've been doing over the last little while! Being that it's freezing cold and everything has shut down again, we haven't really been on any field trips, but we've been making fun at home.

Looking Back at our 2020 Homeschool Year

Whew, I can't believe we're at the end of 2020 already! Unfortunately, like most other people, we spent most of the year at home and away from people. The kids... haven't loved it. There have been some bright spots though, and I hope with this last half of the school year, I can make it a bit more fun for them. So, what did we actually do this year?

RightStart Math: Curriculums I love!

A few weeks ago I shared a bit about our reading and spelling curriculum, so this week I'm going to share a bit about the math curriculum we use! When it comes to teaching math to preschoolers, there tends to be two main camps: no curriculum (kids learn alongside you as you count things, read books about numbers, jump up and down a certain number of times, etc) and curriculum (following some sort of published guide). RightStart Math Organization Update & Sale

Lately I've been having Manipulative Organization Envy.

Well, to be fair, most days I have homeschool organization envy (my homeschool area is um... chaos). But recently on the RightStart Facebook group, I'd been seeing people using a super duper organized container for all their pieces and well... I decided I needed to try it. I had been using a large Steralite box with all our stuff in it plus a couple extra containers for the cards, but had been taking way too long to find certain pieces in preparation for each lesson.

Homeschool curriculums for the fall!

We've been homeschooling for 8 years now I guess -- if you consider that we are homeschooling our kids from when they are first born! Over the years I've tried various curriculum - some I've stuck with, some I've shelved. This coming year I'll have one in 3rd grade, one in 1st grade, and a preschooler. I'd like to say I've got this all figured out, but I'm far from it!  Since I know a lot of people will be homeschooling in the fall and are in a conundrum about what curriculums to use, I thought I'd do a roundup of what we'll be using this coming year. The beauty of homeschooling of course, is if I decide something isn't for us, we can just change it. But I hope this is what we will stick with for the year!
