It’s Bluey! (and) Costume Week at Peony Patterns

This week I’m hosting the Peony Patterns’ Costume Party over on their blog, and while I hadn’t intended on sewing up a costume myself, after seeing so many amazing projects, I had to get in on the action too!

My youngest is obsessed with the Bluey tv show, so when I spotted a similar inspired dress on Pinterest, I knew I could pull off a costume with the Peony Patterns Posie Dress!

I started by copying the front bodice lining onto a sheet of tracing paper, so that I had a full front piece. Then I took my pencil and sketched the design I wanted. Once that was done, I traced off the appliques, adding seam allowance to the ears and the navy blue spots. The rest of the pieces I copied onto Wonder-Under and satin stitched the edges with my sewing machine.

My youngest also hates buttons, so i decided to swap out the button placket for an invisible zipper. Prior to joining the Peony tester team, I used to test for another company that used invisible zippers almost exclusively, so I had acquired a huge collection of them… with Peony pretty much only using buttons, they’ve been sitting untouched for a long while!

I bought the fabric for this one at JoAnn – I think it’s from their poly-cotton range, but it might be 100% cotton — I’m kinda blanking on what I used!

I hope you love this outfit! Do check out the rest of the blog posts on Peony Patterns this week for tons of amazing inspiration for your Halloween, Book Week and Cosplay costumes! There’s also 30% off all patterns until September 11, 2022.
