Mother’s Day is right around the corner, so that means it’s time for cute matchy-matchy outfits with my daughters! Of course, a mother’s day themed blog tour is always a great incentive to get these projects done, so thanks to Seams Sew Lo for setting this one up!
A couple of weeks ago, I made myself the Jalie Bella dress and since I had fabric leftover from that project, I figured I’d do some matchy-matchy versions for my daughters. The great thing about Jalie is my entire family can now wear their patterns! (Well, my petite 2 year old is still a little on the small side for the Jalie 2T, but this dress does just fine being a little bigger!)
The Jalie Bella Dress is such a quick and easy sew, but I learned one major thing.
Whenever lengthening a dress, WRITE DOWN YOUR PROCEDURE!!! For the love… I had to lengthen my eldest’s dress (H width, J length) and so I was doing this, took a break, and then proceeded to use a different (and shorter) length for all the rest of my pieces. Unfortunately it wasn’t until I started pinning everything together that I realized I’d done a major boo-boo. So unfortunately I had to shorten her dress by about 2 inches :-(. I’m trying to work out how best to maximize her ability to wear this dress so I think what I’ll do is make some knee length leggings for it.
I cut the largest size first and then squeezed the smaller one out of the leftovers. I didn’t quite have enough though, so I used a trick that I’d read about in Threads Magazine, and pieced the corners of the skirt side panels. Since the skirt is so flowy, you can’t tell at all!
Oh, and of course I had to make a dress for the doll! (Who desperately needs to go to mommy’s doll salon!). For this I used the bodice from the Bonjour Teaspoon Mia Dress and the circle skirt from the QTPie Easy as Pie Bandeau Dress (I received both patterns free from Pixie Faire by signing up for their weekly free patterns).

I couldn’t even tell that you did any pattern piecing, you did such a great job. What a clever solution.

Actually, if they still have it in stock, you could get it shipped. Here’s their website – you’d probably need to send a picture to them since it’s not listed on their website. https://metrotextilesnyc.com/
