It’s new pattern time! Itch to Stitch launched the Tallinn Top and Dress today – this is a fitted knit top/dress with princess seams, center front seam, and options for a peplum, top, or dress. You’ll need fabric with about 50% horizontal stretch and good recovery. I used Cotton Lycra for mine but you can use any jersey, double-brushed poly, ITY or French Terry.
Tallinn comes with two bust templates – a regular bust, and full bust (over 3″ difference between high bust and full bust). The pattern runs size 00 – 20 (Waist: 25 3/8″ – 40 1/2″; hip: 31 1/8″ – 48″; bust: 32 1/8″ – 49″). I made a size 00 bust blended to 2 waist and used a regular bust piece. I didn’t lengthen this top, but probably could have added an extra inch to the hem (I’m almost 5’8″).
I made the peplum view. I think this is the perfect view for anyone self conscious about their tummy, since it’s fitted at the bust and flared at the waist! (Make this in Swim and it would be perfect as a rash guard!).
Sewing the Tallinn is fairly easy – if you can sew a bunch of curves, then you can definitely sew this!
The biggest challenge for me in making this top is getting the fit right. I definitely have a long way to go to fully identify and solve fitting issues, and with this one I really struggled with getting my bust right. In looking at the tester roundup, I think this pattern works best on people with a B sewing cup and above. A cups will likely need to do a small bust adjustment – something I’m not really confident at doing yet. So, I recommend checking out the tester roundup blog post on the ITS website to work out how this pattern could look on you!
The Itch to Stitch Tallinn Top/Dress will be on sale for the week – this is a great time to take advantage of the bundle discount too! If you sew it up, I’d love to see yours!
