Wild Bloom by Art Gallery Fabrics & Peony Patterns Nettle Dress

This week I had the opportunity to sew up some wonderful Art Gallery knit fabric from the Wild Bloom collection by Bari J, called “Flower Shower Subtle.” This project was also in collaboration with Peony Patterns, so I used their Nettle Dress to showcase this gorgeous print! You can find this print and the rest of the collection at various retailers both online and in your local independant fabric stores.

Art Gallery knits have a soft, fluid hand to them, so they’re perfect for billowy tops and dresses, and since this knit is a Cotton Lycra, it’s not tricky to work with like a Rayon Lycra.

The twirl on the Nettle Dress is so fun! This print does have a direction to it (when you look closely), so I made sure to keep my pattern piece the right way up when cutting out the two parts of the circle skirt. I also remembered to add pockets this time!

Nettle does come with two different sleeve lengths and two different necklines. The long sleeve has the lovely billowy look, and the short sleeve has a unique twist to it (see my short sleeve version of Nettle over here). The neckline can be made with a soft V option or the scoop.

A very quick pattern to sew up, Nettle is available in childrens sizes 1-14. I used just under 2 yards to create this one in a blend of size 7 (chest) and 13 (height). Since the pattern is digital, you can get started straight away, either printing it at home, a local copy shop, or using a projector.

Since it’s the dead of winter here, I used my Summerana membership to add cherry blossoms to these pictures! My daughter has been getting very excited about dictating what imaginary backgrounds need to be behind her in our photoshoots!!

Be sure to join the Peony Patterns group on Facebook for more inspiration, and follow them on Instagram too! Also, if you happen to be local to me, I run a Facebook group for Northern Virginia sewists of all levels that you’re welcome to join!

Happy sewing!

Disclosure: I received 2 yards of fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics, and complimentary patterns from Peony Patterns in exchange for promotion. Opinions 100% my own!
