I just can’t stop sewing Calendula dresses! My eldest got into roller skating late last year and when I saw this Indy Bloom roller skate fabric from Hawthorne Threads, I just had to have it!

The fabric is a custom print available in “little” and “big“. I went with the little version, but I wish I’d got the print in the larger scale so that it showed up more from a distance. You can pick from a ton of different bases too. I opted for 58” wide medium weight jersey.

To be able to maximize the cute stripe coordinate, I lined the sleeves. This made them have more of a “wing” effect, which I’m not a huge fan of, so I don’t think I’d line them again in the future — unless I were using a very lightweight fabric. But I love that you can see glimpses of the stripe every now and then! (I also make some stripe leggings to go with it, but we took these pics when it was about 92oF and she wasn’t keen on modeling leggings that day!)

Calendula is a great dress for knits, and I’ve now made four of them now (I think!). It’s a straightforward sew, but if you’re new to knits, definitely check out the Peony Patterns YouTube channel for a video tutorial of Calendula!

My daughter can’t wait for homeschool roller skating to start up again! She’s got big plans for wearing this dress each week!
(If you like her accessories, you can get Triple 8 gear on Amazon! We’re not big fans of her skates – when they finally break or she grows out of them, I plan to get her some Moxis instead.)
