My month of clothes for me continues, with the new Sibiu Top from Itch to Stitch! I love how easy this cosy top is to whip up! I feel like the thing that took the longest time was getting it all cut out (I don’t know about you, but cutting out takes me forever, making sure everything stays on grain, especially when dealing with wriggly knits). Overall, I want to say that between cutting and sewing, this one took about 2 hours or so to make! So I’d better make a few more before I get distracted by the next pattern test to come my way!
Sibiu has lots of great options – a dolman top with two necklines (band or cowl), long or 3/4 length sleeves, and easy to follow directions for blending sizes together. There’s also an option for sleeve inserts, perfect for a contrast fabric or even stretch lace. The pattern comes in sizes 00 – 40, and I made a 0 bust and blended with an 8 hip.

Sibiu is designed for light to medium weight knits. I used a lightweight mystery knit – I thinks it’s a polyester hacci knit – that I got from G-Street Fabrics (in Rockville, MD) remnant table for…. $3 p/yard! So hello, $6 sweater. The only downside with being polyester, is it is pretty clingy, especially in the back (as you can see in some photos). I’d like to make a few more of these, maybe in a rayon or bamboo spandex.
If you’re a beginner sewist, this is a great pattern to start with in your sewing-with-knits journey! If you’re a seasoned sewist, then this is a speedy stashbuster – perfect for creating a bunch of things with that shelf of “hopes and dreams” you keep staring at ;-).
