Jalie Bonnie Romper + Wolf & Rabbit Plants Preorder {closes tonight!}

Ahh, this week has been so busy, I totally spaced on sharing about the latest preorder from Wolf & Rabbit Fabrics! This round is available on organic Euro Cotton Lycra and includes hand painted plants, stripes, beetles, rainbows and beautiful florals! There are so many designs in this collection that I want to have!

Wolf & Rabbit sent me a fat half of both the house plants and gray stripes, along with a yard of solid Apricot CL and matching rib knit.

For this look, I sewed up a Bonnie Romper by Jalie. This was my favorite pattern from their most recent collection! It goes from size 2t – Adult 5XL, so it’s definitely versatile for many bodies! My daughter is tall and skinny, but it wasn’t a challenge to mash the sizes together. I did size down at the chest (since I used cotton lycra instead of something with more fluidity) – I think I used H. I didn’t grade out for the hip (K) – instead I just cut the shorts according to hip size and then stretched the fabric to fit the bodice. Worked a charm! I also added length – she was a L for height, so I added I think 2 1/2 inches to the bodice and an inch to the bottoms.

The piping wasn’t part of the pattern – I added that myself. I cut each strip to be 1″ wide, and just folded it in half, then installed like normal piping. I used my coverstitch binder to attach binding at the pocket opening.

Since I had a whole yard of solid, I decided to make my daughter a cardigan to go with her outfit. Jalie Charlotte was mostly easy to sew up, though the waistband is a bit fiddly and mine’s definitely not perfect. I think I’d prefer to alter that waistband so it goes all the way along the bottom — I just haven’t had time to work out how I might do it differently. (As I write this, I’m wearing my Itch to Stitch Lisbon Cardigan and wondering if I can construct it in a similar way!).

If you look closely, you’ll see I used the ribbing on the cuffs and waistband! I love that it’s the exact color of the Cotton Lycra! I found the buttons in my button stash – to stitch the buttonholes, I used my Bernina’s knit buttonhole setting. It’s one stitch that I hardly ever use but is perfect for this kind of project.

I love how these turned out, and of course, Wolf & Rabbit really makes them amazing outfits! The preorder for these closes tonight (September 10), and the collection is expected to ship late October/early November.
