Jalie’s 2021 collection has launched and you’re bound to find something to love! This year, Jalie is launching 10 new patterns designed for men, women, and kids, and they’ve added a separate extended sizing pattern as well (so sizing for each pattern now goes from kids 2T – 2XL, and 1XL – 5XL.).
When I saw Bonnie, I KNEW I had to sew it up! This is a cute romper designed for lightweight fluid knits, such as bamboo lycra, rayon lycra, modal, etc. Armed with this knowledge, I decided to defy the “rules” and use Euro cotton lycra instead. I think the fabric choice made it a little wide at the chest – something that could be fixed by grading that in a bit and/or adding knit stay tape to the armscye. But, it works, and my daughter ADORES it!
Bonnie features spaghetti straps, princess seams, a fully lined bodice, and shorts with side pockets. Construction is pretty easy and as always, I found myself really appreciating Jalie’s smart construction methods.
My daughter was between F and G in the bodice and was I for length. After making a muslin, I decided to do an F chest and G shorts, adding length to the bodice and shorts. I based my additional length on her being G all over, and should have added extra to the bodice to account for using F up top. As such it doesn’t billow out quite as much as it’s intended to.
Due to printing limitations, Jalie were unable to include both pattern size ranges in a single pattern envelope, so they opted to have the paper versions available in separate size ranges, and as such, the PDF’s followed suit.
For fabric, I chose some hoarded Wolf & Rabbit! Mulberry Plaid and an Owl panel (no longer available). She has tons of other panels and prints in stock right now though, plus a new preorder is about to open if you’re looking for something new! Check out the Wolf & Rabbit Facebook Group to stay in the loop on all that.
Disclosure: I received this pattern free in exchange for testing and promotion. Opinions are 100% my own!
