My girls don’t need more dresses.
According to my husband.
So this week, I sewed another dress for my youngest! 💃
My youngest has a passion for lemons (and avocados)! She has been desperately asking for clothes with lemons on them, so when Wolf & Rabbit had a preorder for lemon poplin (now available as retail), my arm was twisted!
Last week I tested Maisie’s Tied Collar Dress from Simple Life Pattern Company and it worked perfectly with this fabric! This is a super cute dress and comes with plenty of options so that it can be worn year round.
About the Pattern
Maisie’s Tied Collar Dress has the following features:
- Two skirt lengths – vintage and dress (I did dress)
- Sizes 2T – 12 (I made size 2 and added the extra length (for size 4) at the bodice waist)
- Sleeveless, short, 3/4, or long sleeve + optional sleeve cuffs
- Optional tied collar
- Fully lined bodice
- Layered PDF with A0 printing and projector options
- Designed for wovens
- Placket with buttons/snaps in back
- Faux ruffled waistband (in front only)
- Optional inseam pockets
My only regret with this dress is that I opted for the collarless version rather than the tied! I also wish that I had used solid yellow for the waistband (while keeping the ruffle in the lemon print).
The pattern is rated as advanced beginner and I would agree with that. The instructions are fairly clear throughout, and the only curves you need to sew are around the neckline and armscyes.
I used my Bernina 10 foot (edge stitch foot) to get a nice consistent stitch around my waistband. (If you don’t have an edge stitch foot, I highly recommend getting one!)
You can get Maisie’s Tied Collar Dress pattern on sale for 20% off during release week (no coupon required)!
(Oh, and I made the bow by basically following the instructions from Betty’s Ultimate Flounce Dress).
About the Fabric
Wolf & Rabbit has been one of my favorite fabric designers for the last few years and she recently added Euro organic cotton poplin to her lineup. This poplin is about the same weight as premium quilting cotton, slightly smoother, and with better drape. It’s 60″ wide too, so it works out at a great value compared to buying 44″ quilt shop cotton.
Be sure to join the Wolf & Rabbit Facebook group so that you get alerts for presales and retail releases (pricing is the same for both, but her most popular designs sell out quickly, so presale is better if you’re not in a hurry). This lemon print was hand painted in watercolor by the designer and then digitized for printing!
Summary
Maisie’s Tied Collar Dress is another great pattern from Simple Life Pattern Company! Perfect for back to school, the holiday season, and plenty of other casual or fancy occasions. While I made mine in cotton poplin, I think it would also be fabulous in shirting, flannel, and would look pretty stunning in a satin or taffeta too. My favorite part is the waistband ruffle – so on trend right now, and something many girls will love too!
