As I’ve mentioned before, my husband’s first name means “dragon” so whenever I have the opportunity to sew up some dragon fabric, I usually jump on it!
Affordable Fabrics & More sent me some dragon yardage, a coordinate and a panel this week, so it was a nice opportunity to finally make something for my son! I’m hoping this keeps him from feeling jealous of his sisters for at least a couple of weeks, haha!
This fabric is all 95/5 Cotton Lycra knit, digitally printed, and 220-260gsm. It’s a really nice weight and feels very soft and smooth. It’s currently available for preorder until September 8, 2019.
Phat Quarters Colorado Cap
For the last few weeks, the new Colorado Cap from Phat Quarters has been popping up all over my Facebook feed, so I just knew I had to make it. Phat Quarters graciously sent me a copy of the pattern so I could sew it up for you all, and it really is just adorable!
In my initial sketch I’d put spikes on the hat. Once I sewed it all up I looked back at that sketch and kicked myself for forgetting to do that!!! Sigh… It would be a very easy hack though!
At just $5, this pattern is a steal! Who knew you could make your own baseball cap, right?! And bonus – this pattern goes all the way from kids to adults! I do recommend a sturdy sewing machine for this project though – all the layers get rather thick to maneuver – I just can’t see it happening on a cheap Singer or Brother.
Kleiner Polli-Klecks Tilt Shirt
For the shirt, I chose the Tilt by kleiner Polli-Klecks (I previously sewed the Tilt here). This is a pretty straightforward sew, even though the instructions are in German. All the seam allowances are included in the pattern too, so unlike most German patterns, there’s no need to add those in yourself!
And again I didn’t do what I had intended to do! Since I had already made a cap, I had no intention to make a hoodie as well. But then after I cut the panel out I realized I’d used the hoodie neckline cutline rather than the higher up t-shirt line. Blah. So the hood was added! Oh well… Now we have options, right? (And I was going to add spikes. And forgot. Again. Failing all over here people, haha!)
Jalie Henri Shorts
Bet ya didn’t recognize these shorts as Jalie Henri, right? I was inspired by the new Sofilantjes Brevis Shorts. I was planning to get that pattern, but in the end decided to save myself from printing, taping and tracing out yet another pattern and instead just altered something I already had. I’ll plan to get a tutorial up for this hack very soon!
These were all fun sews and came together fairly quickly. I think my son will get lots of wear out of all these pieces!
