Quilted Diaper Bag (Simplicity 2924)

Originally published on BurdaStyle 1/24/2010

I made this diaper (nappy) bag for my sister using Simplicity pattern 2924. I modified the pattern by quilting the fabric (Alexander Henry with some lightweight batting and white muslin) using my Bernina Walking Foot.

I decided to use heavy weight (Peltex) interfacing to keep everything really structured, but that was a mistake as it made it a bit too heavy and also it was a pain in the butt to sew everything once it got really thick.

The pattern has ribbon sewn to the front but I thought that looked stupid so didn’t include that.

From the same pattern, I made the changing pad and the diaper wipes bag (i also quilted that, and modified the top by stitching bias binding around it – the pattern called for folding it over but it was too thick to do that with the quilting). There is also a pacifier (dummy) clip attached with a suspender clip.

Material Notes

Alexander Henry Canyon Path (outside), Alexander Henry Canyon Flutter (lining)
Interfacing (peltex)
Vinyl interfacing (pellon) – on changing pad
